Fact of the Month:
Blow Silver Wind
Sigmund Groven has numerous times been commissioned to compose works for special events. In 1975 Sigmund was asked to compose the music to Blow, Silver Wind by Erik Bye (1926 – 2004), the famous reporter and entertainer. The event was the 150th anniversary of the first Norwegian immigrants to America, who sailed with “Restaurationen” in 1825. The song premiered in Salt Lake City in Utah and was performed by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The song has also been performed at Carnegie Hall in New York.
Blow, Silver Wind has been recorded a number of times, but the version appearing on Harmonica Hits is a previously unreleased recording made by Sigmund and Tommy Reilly in Munich, Germany.
