As of August 2018, Sigmund is a harmonica teacher at the Norwegian Academy of Music. The academy is the highest level of music education in Norway.

Recordings and music

Sigmund Groven has, together with Ivar Anton Waagaard (piano) recorded a new album, called Songs for harmonica. All the music is written by Norwegian composer Kristian Lindeman. The album will be released by Grappa on their Pro Musica label on September 20th and launched with a concert at Nasjonalbiblioteket (The National Library) in Oslo on September 28th. 2019 marks the centenary of Tommy Reilly, the legendary harmonica virtuoso who was Sigmund’s mentor. On August 2nd, Chandos Records will release a special CD, A Life in Music – Vintage Tommy Reilly with rare and previously unreleased recordings of Tommy Reilly, compiled by Sigmund and Tommy’s son David.

May 25th, Trondheim: World premiere of Sigmund’s original work Holiday for Three (Ferie for tre), a suite in five movements for three classical guitars, commissioned by Arctic Guitar Trio. Also performances of music composed by Eirik Hegdal, Bertil Palmar Johansen, and Terje Bjørklund. This takes place at Dokkhuset at NTNU in Trondheim at 2 pm. Sigmund will present his work, which is performed by Jarl Strømdal and the guitar trio. Free entrance!

June 3rd, Oslo:  Concert at 7 pm at the Norwegian National Library, with Birgitte Grimstad, Per Husby, and Sigmund.

June 16th, Notodden: Sigmund and Ivar Anton Waagaard (piano) will be playing a mini-concert at 1 pm at the opening of the summer season at Heddal Bygdetun (Notodden) – this is the local history museum in Heddal which is also Sigmund’s home district.

June 23rd, Oslo: Concert with Sigmund and Ivar Anton Waagaard (piano) at the Vigeland Museum, at 2 pm.

August 8-11th, Tvedestrand: NMF (Norwegian Harmonica Forum) summer seminar at Risøy Folkehøgskole in Tvedestrand. Sigmund is one of the teachers, together with Tore Reppe, Vegard Austlid Kjøsnes, and Ivar Anton Waagaard. End-of-seminar concert on Sunday August 11th at Dypvåg church, Tvedestrand.

September 14th, Klepp: “På kino i kveld” (Music from the Movies) with Norwegian and Nordic film tunes; Sigmund as part of the quartet Oss Fire (with Tone Elisabeth Braaten, soprano, Lars Klevstrand, vocal and guitar, and Ivar Anton Waagaard, piano) at Friluftshuset Orre.

September 15th, Notodden: Sigmund and Iver Kleive (organ and piano) celebrate 40 years of collaboration. 7 pm at Notodden Church.

September 25th, Notodden: Programme with Sigmund, Kåre Nordstoga (organ and piano) and a talk by Per Arne Dahl, at Heddal Låvekyrkje.

October 13th, Risør: Sigmund and Iver Kleive (organ and piano) celebrate 40 years of collaboration at Søndeled church.

November 2nd, Notodden: Sigmund and Lars Klevstrand (vocal,guitar) join Notodden Mannssangforening (Notodden Men’s Choir) in a tribute to Erik Bye. Details TBA.

November 12th, Oslo: Centenary Concert celebrating two famous Norwegian composers: Øistein Sommerfeldt and Johan Kvandal. Sigmund is among the artists, and will be performing original works dedicated to him by those two composers. At the National Library in Oslo at 7 pm.

November 14th, Drangedal: Sigmund and Iver Kleive celebrate 40 years of collaboration at Tørdal church.

November 17th, Moss: Sigmund and Iver Kleive celebrate 40 years of collaboration at Moss church.
